Walk through the expansive ground-level foundations that frame the main pyramid structure.
Before you climb the central pyramid, take time to explore the vast outer enclosure. The square outer wall measures 127 meters by 116 meters and contains several distinct structures.
This lower level holds key elements of local folklore. You will find stone vats and brick towers that archaeologists believe were later additions to the 10th-century site.

This is the traditional main entrance gateway. It cuts directly through the 127-meter by 116-meter laterite outer wall. Look for the remnants of the ancient causeway near the modern parking area before you walk in.
5-10 minsLaterite and brick
Find this cluster of six brick towers just inside the eastern gopura. Archaeologists believe these structures were built after the main temple. Notice that one of the towers on the right appears to have never been completed.
5 minsEast side
This large stone vat sits on the east side near the base of the main stairs. Local legend links it to ancient cremation ceremonies. Its historical use remains debated, but it drives the temple's 'Turn the Body' folklore.
5 minsPerimeter walk
These elongated halls line the north, south, and west sides of the enclosure. Only the footprints and lower wall remains stand today. Walking past them helps you visualize the immense original scale of this 10th-century complex.
