The central structure of Pre Rup is a three-tiered pyramid representing Mount Meru. It forms the highest point of the 10th-century complex.

King Rajendravarman II had this section built using a mix of laterite for the foundations and brick for the upper towers. Most visitors climb the steps to explore the sanctuaries and watch the sunset.
